Hi,
we've set up several SQL servers to use listeners for connections.
In the past I've always set the port to be static for the instance.
SQL Server configuration manager -> SQLserver network configuration à Protocols for <instancename> -> IP Addresses
This has been necessary in the past for kerberos to work as we were using VCS clusters.
At the moment the servers are set to use dynamic ports and keberos is working.
My understanding of availability groups and listeners is that the port number of the sql server itself is no longer important as the listener will handle all connections. Therefore setting the port to static is irrelevant and in fact may cause an issue if the SQL instances tries to start and another application has already used the port number.
Any advice appreciated.
