I know the answer to this question but I am hoping to get some high level folks to chime in and confirm my question for folks I need to relay back to.
The question is ... is Clustering part of SQL Server OR is it a Windows Server component/snap-in.
Dilema I am faced with is a SysOps person is saying clustering is a SQL component so I should be responsible to get after hours calls when it fails.
Even though they are the ones who install cluster services after they have loaded the OS they are still relaying it should be the DBA team answering the calls when the cluster failes over.
My position is that SQL Server is an application (like SharePoint and such) that is cluster aware and is install on windows clustering service.
SQL has no built in tools out of box to detect cluster failovers thus the SysOps team should be using an Op5 or Solarwinds to monitor such an event.
Can some of you gurus and MVP please chime in and give your thoughts ...
I need to have a meetin tomorrow morning at 9:30 CST so any infor before then would be much appriciated.
Thanks ALL!
