Hello,
A question was asked some time ago which did not receive an answer.
I understand that SQL 2008 R2 is supported by Windows Server Backup WSB. There are various references to SQL in Ms WSB documentation. I assume that an application level recovery of SQL databases is required with WSB the same as any other SQL backup recovery with other third party backup applications.
After successful backups of a SQL server the applications option in the recovery wizard is greyed out in WSB. I have followed the backup procedures set out inhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725726.aspx and the technote of how to register an application's VSS writer in WSB in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc307260(VS.85).aspx I have also compared this with the registry entries on a working Exchange server using WSB on the same site to make sure the procedure is basically sound.
It doesn't work, I obtained the SQL VSS Writer details from the output of VSSadmin list writers cmd and have entered the details correctly as far as I can see and comparing them with the same settings on the Exchange Server.
Please advise, any assistance appreciated.
I have a very similar issue. Windows Server Backup has taken a VSS full backup of the server and yet the option to restore application is greyed out in Windows Server Backup and while there is a backup copy showing in restore in SSMS I get an error when trying to restore it.
Please can anyone help.
