AlwaysOn with 2012

Hello,

I'm hearing from my sysadmin that I cannot do AlwaysOn to a remote DR center with 2012.  That until 2016 a shared quorum disk is required.  The long distance clustering cannot happen.

This is not what I understood.  Can someone please verify?  And point me to the right docs?
