AlwaysOn OR SQL Cluster on VMWare environment?

Dear Guru's,

I am looking for some opinion on implementing High Availability on our SQL Environment.

Our environment is VMWare and all of our machines are virtual.

I've piloted SQL 2012 Always ON with non-shared disk on our test environment which is perfectly fine and as expected.

VMWare suggests non-shared disk for Always ON, and if you want shared disk then it asks to implement SQL Cluster.

Now, we are moving to a new Data Center and I've been asked to come up with a plan whether to go for Always ON or SQL Cluster on the new environment.

Going for Always ON is a bit of challenge due to non-shared disk we are doubling up the disk cost and our environment is huge.

Our system administrators are not in favor of SQL Cluster, as they have heard it Microsoft Cluster doesn't go very well with VMWare.

Any thoughts and advise on this will be much appreciated.

Best regards,

Mohan
