We are going to have 9 SQL 2012 Cluster's but we are running into problems getting them setup properly. Here is what we are trying to accomplish.
We have VMware 5.0 running on a iSCSI SAN. We currently have 9 SQL 2005 Standard Servers (Non-Clustered) that we are migrating to SQL 2012 setup in a Cluster. We are trying to not have any single point of failure.
We know we need to use shared storage for the clustered SQL servers. The problem we are having is finding the right white paper or documentation that says in a VMware environment running iSCSI here is the best way to setup SQL 2012 Always on FCI (not availability groups).
Can anyone point us in the right direction as to what is the best practices? We have gotten this working using 2 SQL Servers Clustered and a Windows 2012 Server hosting the Shared storage (all of these virtual) but that solution has a single point of failure in the Windows 2012 server hosting the shared storage. If we need to do Windows Update on that server both of the SQL servers (Active and Failover) would be down.
We have a tight timeline to get this done so any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!
