Access SQL through Alwayson Listener

I have setup AlwaysOn in Azure Resource manager. The SQL and cluster setup appears OK. Have added several databases and synchronisation appears to be working fine. I can fail back and forth between the nodes. However I cannot connect via the listener name from any machine other than the primary node. I can ping the name and telnet on port 1433 from other servers, but I cannot connect with SSMS from the secondary node or make an data source connection from another machine in the same network. This is a single subnet setup.

I have checked the firewall rules are there for 1433 and 5022 as well as the probe port. I have tried turning the firewall off, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any other ideas
