Hello,
I am in need of some guidance and advice on how best and safely to migrate our SQL server. Currently, we have WSFC running a named instance on SQL Server 2014 on Windows Server 2008 R2. I want to migrate this to eventually an Always-On availibility group on Windows Server 2012 R2 on SQL Server 2014. I havent been able to find much information on how to do this safely without either losing information or destroying SQL. For ease of transistion, the Instance name and IP address must remain the same. If possible as well, I would like to do a live migration process so that SQL does not go offline during the upgrade but if it must go offline, I accept that. I would be happy to get the instance running just on one machine with no issues, then convert it to an Always-On AG. Is there a guide out there on how to do this as I have not been able to find much information about it. I am looking for the easiest way to perform this and also have a fallback plan.
TIA,
David
