Hello,
we have a 2 node cluster with sql 2008 r2 standard edition on 2 virtual machines (Hyper-V). We have performance issues at the CPU side and with Hyper-V you cannot add more than 4 virtual CPUs to a machine. And also there is a limit with SQL Standard Edition for a maximum of 2 Nodes in a cluster i think.
So we plan to replace one of the cluster nodes with a physical Server. We thought about the following scenario:
1) Add the physical node into the Windows Cluster (not SQL)
2) Remove the second node (virtual) from SQL cluster
3) Add the physical node as second SQL-node to the SQL-Cluster
Is this a possible way? What happens if i remove the second node from SQL-cluster in step 2? Has the remaining SQL-node still all the Ressources of the cluster (DNS-Name, IP-Adress, Drives,....) so that i easyily can add the physical node? What are your experiences with clustering a physical server with a virtual one?
Thank you,
Thomas
