Hi,
DR question based on recovering a SQL server which is currently a member of a cluster.
We have a customer that has a physical SQL 2008 fail-over cluster. Naturally if the active node fails the passive node takes over which works well.
We are addressing our DR options and have access to a high performing VMware DR site.
What would be viable options in recovering our SQL server to a Virtual Machine running on VMware? It doesn't have to be a cluster it just has to be up and running. VMware HA will take care of the high availability at the DR site.
For the purposes of this question I'm not interested in how to get the data to the DR site, we are just looking for good ways to get SQL up and running again.
The best option I can think of at the moment is to have a blank "ready to go" SQL server with the same name and IP address etc and then import the databases and transaction logs to it. I know we'll need domain controller as well etc which is fine.
All help appreciated :)
