2012 Always on

We have a Live prd VM on Win2012 with SQL 2012, which hosts the primary DB.  The mirror DB is on an exact same VM but at our secondary site.  As this is currently live can we convert this into a Always on Availaibilty Group set up, or can you only configure it to be a AoAG when initially built.    Slightly deviating from the initial q', but trying to set up 2 copies of DB with failover options but to also have a RO copy for reporting against, housed on a 3rd SQL 2012 server, thoughts are that AoAG would be ideal, but not sure if there are better methods, or even if AoAg were possible to set up when servers are already live.  Appreciate any feedback, thanks
