How to re-Establish Logshipping

I am using SQL Server 2008 R2. My LSRestore job is failing with the following error:

'This log cannot be restored because a gap in the log chain was created. Use more recent data backups to bridge the gap.'

I'm sure this is due to the fact that at one point our primary database was changed to Simple and then back to Full.

Rather than reconfiguring log shipping, can I do the following?

Disable the LSRestore job on the secondary server. Take a backup created at midnight, restore it to the secondary server, delete any .trn files on the secondary server created before midnight, (last one was before 6pm), then enable the LSRestore job on the secondary server.
