Online query on backup DB

Hi MS expert

Is it possible to do online query on backup DB without restoring it? We are using SQL 2008 R2.

Actually we only backup historic data periodically and delete its copy in online DB. Sometimes later, the customer want to query the historic data, so we can show them based on online DB together with the historic backup.
