SQL 2014
We use log shipping as part of our DR system. Occassionally we test our DR plan and fail over to the LS server. We also apply Windows Updates regulary, as well as SQL Service Packs. Now we're planning our upgrade to SQL 2016. Every one of the things I just listed leads to downtime. My boss continually asks me how large companies that run on SQL never go down. Unless something has changed, I believe Amazon runs on SQL. I've never seen Amazon in "maintenance mode". So, how does a company like Amazon achieve 100% uptime?
